a golden locket

i wear a empty locket around my neck
and every day, it wears
with time, and with use.
the back is beginning to tarnish.
the hinges are breaking,
and yet, the inside
remains empty.
the cold hard metal
leaves an impression on my chest.
it's weight lays against the contours
of my neck and collar,
cascading down.
apart of me.
